Ugly

You know, love isn’t some magic ability to turn a blind eye to fat noses, dimpled skin or dark circles or mood swings or screechy laughter or whatever else you think is wrong with you. Nor is it the ability to accept a person despite their flaws. That’s just woke BS and most likely hiding a hypocrite under its smooth-speak.

No, love isn’t righteous. In the beginning when it’s hot and fresh, what love does is, it takes in the whole of you and says OK, I like most of that and I kind of don’t mind the rest of it either.

But over time, the boundaries blur and the rest of it- the less-loved bits of you- become the thing that you are loved for. Because love waits for you to reveal your grating horse-laugh, love laughs when you drool in your sleep, love is at once alarmed and admiring of your ability to wake up hideous and clean up good. You see, love just wants to belong. In fact, love wants to stay in and relax. Love wants to be comfortable. So, please be ugly and let love be ugly with you.
