An equally important legacy
Some people write books, some make murals on the walls of government buildings, this one man built an entire garden out of waste in Chandigarh and a few others believe they’ve contributed to the world in decently raised children.
But her legacy was a few cartons worth of recycled plastic.
And an improved garbage disposal system thanks to a strongly worded letter circa 1994 published on the grievances section of the local newspaper.
She may have had a hand in planting the Gulmohar tree outside the old school. But this cannot be confirmed.
However, since June 23rd 2015 the crows around Asha Niketan never went thirsty because she left them a bowl of water on the terrace and two street dogs no longer had to worry about food.
Besides, she left a smile on 12789 faces in her lifetime.
And used her handbag to whack a man harassing a teenage girl on the bus one hot April afternoon.
She also taught the little boy downstairs the scientific names of one worm and seven flowering plants.
And then she left her body to medical science.
